Types of Engines

There are two main types:

• Jet
• Reciprocating

Jets come as:

• Tubojet
• Turboprop
• Turbofan
• Turboshaft

Reciprocating engines come as:

• Rotary, the cyclinders in a circle which move while the crank stays still. (Not like a Mazda RX)
• Radial, cyclinders in a circle and the crank moves.
• Inline   (like an 4 cyclinder car)
• Inline inverted crank at the top.
• V inline (like a V8 Holden)
• Flat opposed.  (Like a Subaru)

The most common is the last, the flat opposed.
